Obesity Research & Clinical Practice presents articles on basic, clinical and public health aspects of obesity and related disorders.

Criteria for initial considerations for papers submitted will be originality, statistical provability of all data, and applicability to the aims of the Journal as a whole. Additional weight will be afforded to those submissions that are concise and comprehensible. All potentially acceptable manuscripts will be subjected to the process of peer review. To aid with the peer review process, please include names, addresses, (email), phone and fax numbers for all individuals suggested to review the manuscript.

To increase the usefulness of Obesity Research & Clinical Practice to the readership, submissions in the following categories, in addition to original manuscripts, will be deemed appropriate for consideration by the Editors and Editorial Board:

Editorials: Comments by organizations or individuals on topics of current interest will be by invitation only.

Review Articles: Critical presentations of topics of interest to those active in the prevention and treatment of obesity and its associated conditions, will generally be invited but unsolicited reviews will be considered for publication if topical, of high quality and subject to peer review.

Short Communication: Report results of original fundamental research in any branch in the field of obesity. Papers describing new methods or significant developments of recognised methods which provide significant insight into origin of obesity and obesity related-diseases, nervous system, the pathophysiology of a obesity related-disease, or obesity treatment may also be submitted. Articles should be written in sufficient detail to allow others to verify the above methods. (See instructions below on how to format Short Communications).

Case Reports: Limited to the presentation and discussion of cases that help advance our understanding of the pathophysiology or management of obesity and related syndromes.

Letters to the Editor: Responses to previous articles and editorials.

Announcements: Announcements to pertinent forthcoming meetings or events.

MANUSCRIPTS: Manuscripts should be double-spaced, using 11 point Arial or Times Roman font and margins of at least 2.5 cm. Place two returns after every element, such as title, headings, paragraphs, and figure and table callouts. Manuscripts are accepted for publication with the understanding that their contents, or their essential substance, have not been published elsewhere, except in abstract form or by the express consent of the Editors. Materials taken from other sources must be accompanied by written permissions for reproduction, obtained from the original publisher. Statistical methods should be identified. Priority claims are discouraged.

Acknowledgments of aid or criticism should be approved by the person whose help is being recognized. Grantors may be listed at the conclusion of the text. Papers must be submitted using the online submission system at http://ees.elsevier.com/orcp

• The authors declare that all experiments on human subjects were conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki http://www.wma.net and that all procedures were carried out with the adequate understanding and written consent of the subjects.
• The authors also certify that formal approval to conduct the experiments described has been obtained from the human subjects review board of their institution and could be provided upon request.
• If the studies deal with animal experiments, the authors certify that they were carried out in accordance with the National Institute of Health Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (NIH Publications No. 80-23) revised 1996 or the UK Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and associated guidelines, or the European Communities Council Directive of 24 November 1986 (86/609/EEC).
• The authors also certify that formal approval to conduct the experiments described has been obtained from the animal subjects review board of their institution and could be provided upon request.
• The authors further attest that all efforts were made to minimize the number of animals used and their suffering.
• If the ethical standard governing the reported research is different from those guidelines indicated above, the authors must provide information in the submission cover letter about which guidelines and oversight procedures were followed.
• The Editors reserve the right to return manuscripts in which there is any question as to the appropriate and ethical use of human or animal subjects.

To confirm your agreement with this, you are required to include the following statement in your Cover Letter indicating your agreement with these standards: "I have read and have abided by the statement of ethical standards for manuscripts submitted to the Obesity Research & Clinical Practice"

Identification of patients in descriptions, photographs, and pedigrees A signed statement of informed consent to publish (in print and online) patient descriptions, photographs, and pedigrees should be obtained from all persons (parents or legal guardians for minors) who can be identified (including by the patients themselves) in such written descriptions, photographs, or pedigrees, and should be Instructions to Authors submitted with the manuscript. Such persons should be shown the manuscript before its submission. Omitting data or making data less specific to deidentify patients is acceptable, but changing any such data is not acceptable.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY: Authors are required to disclose commercial or similar relationships to products or companies mentioned in or related to the subject matter of the article being submitted. Sources of funding for the article should be acknowledged in a footnote on the title page. Affiliations of authors should include corporate appointments relating to or in connection with products or companies mentioned in the article, or otherwise bearing on the subject matter thereof. Other pertinent financial relationships, such as consultancies, stock ownership or other equity interests or patent-licensing arrangements, should be disclosed to the Editor-in-Chief in the cover letter at the time of submission. Such relationships may be disclosed in the Journal at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief in footnotes appearing on the title page. Questions about this policy should be directed to the Editor-in-Chief.

TITLE PAGE: On the title page include title; subtitle (if any); first name, middle initial, and last names of each author, with academic degrees; name of Department(s) and Institution(s) to which the work should be attributed; disclaimer(s) (if any); name and address of author to whom requests for reprints should be sent. The address, telephone and fax numbers of the person responsible for negotiations concerning the manuscripts should be listed separately and clearly labelled as such. Authors will be required to sign a statement conferring the manuscript copyright to Obesity Research & Clinical Practice.

ABSTRACT AND KEY WORDS: An abstract of 100 to 250 words for articles (including reviews), or 50 to 100 words for brief communications, should be typed double-spaced on a separate page. It should cover the main factual points, including statements of the problem, methods, results, and conclusions. The abstract should be accompanied by a list of three to five key words for indexing purposes.

TEXT: Headings and subheadings should be provided in the Methods and Results, and where appropriate in the discussion sections. Please keep the text clear and concise. Because the readership of Obesity Research & Clinical Practice spans many disciplines, jargon should be avoided, as it may not be familiar to some readers.

SHORT COMMUNICATION: Text should either not be subdivided or done so in the simplest possible way consistent with clarity. Headings should be used sparingly. Common headings such as 'Introduction' and 'Results and discussion' should not be used, as the text within these sections should be self explanatory. The publisher recommends that only the 'Acknowledgments' and 'References' headings be used. Provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference: only relevant modifications should be described. Results should be clear and concise. Total word count (including abstract) is limited to 1800 words.

ABBREVIATIONS: Use standard abbreviations and units recommended in the Style Manual for Biological Journals (Fourth edition, Arlington, Va., American Institute of Biological Sciences, 1978). Nonstandard abbreviations should be defined the first time they appear in the text.

DRUG NAMES: Generic names should be used. Proprietary names may be given (parenthetically) with the first use of the generic name.

REFERENCES: Consecutive numbers in square brackets should be used to indicate references in the text, e.g., [1,2], as part of the text and not raised above it. The full reference should be cited in a numbered list essentially according to the Vancouver Uniform Requirements (see 5th ed., Ann Intern Med 1997;126(1):36-47).

References to articles that are in press must state name of journal and, if possible, volume and year. References to unpublished material, if essential, should be incorporated in the appropriate place in the text. Written permission from authors of unpublished data should be obtained and submitted. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. Please recheck all references before submission of the paper.

TABLES: Tables should be typed, double-spaced, on separate sheets with number (Roman) and title. Symbols for units should be confined to column headings. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum, and those used, explained.

REVIEW AND ACTION: All contributions (including solicited articles) are critically reviewed by the Editors, members of the Editorial Board, and/or appropriate consultant reviewers. Reviewers' comments are usually returned to authors. The decision of the Editors is final. Submit manuscripts to:
